2,028 Dengue Cases in So. Leyte

The Provincial Health Services Office (PHSO) of Southern Leyte has reported a sharp increase in dengue cases, with 2,028 confirmed infections as of December 7, 2024, according to the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU). The rise in cases is particularly notable in urban centers, including Maasin City, which is the hardest-hit area with 824 cases, accounting for 40.6% of the total infections. Macrohon follows with 357 cases, while Limasawa has recorded 141 cases. Other municipalities also reporting significant numbers include Tomas Oppus with 97 cases, Malitbog with 94, Sogod with 88, Padre Burgos with 79, Hinunangan with 61, Pintuyan with 46, and Liloan with 28. Smaller towns such as Libagon (22 cases), San Ricardo (20 cases), Silago (16 cases), Hinundayan (10 cases), San Francisco (10 cases), Anahawan (7 cases), San Juan (6 cases), and Saint Bernard (6 cases) have also been affected.


The total of 2,028 cases represents all reported infections across the province, with one death recorded, resulting in a case fatality rate of 0.05%.
