Barangay, SK elections are now scheduled

COMELEC calls for voters registration

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is calling those qualified voters for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections that they can now register as polls kick off started last July 4, 2022.
The voters shall elect the Punong Barangays, more commonly known as barangay captain, the SK and members of the Sangguniang Barangays, or barangay council. There are 500 barangays in Southern Leyte and 41,948 barangays throughout the Philippines.
The voter applicants can go to the COMELEC Office in their respective municipality or city, from Monday to Saturday, at 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon, including holidays.
The Barangay and SK elections had been scheduled this coming December 5, after many postponements due to the Covid-19 virus. The last barangay level poll was held in 2018.
Requirements for Sangguniang Kabataan voters registration are: those aged 15 to 30 years old can vote for the SK elections. Those who can vote for the barangay elections are those aged 18 years old and above. For both elections, the voter must be a resident of the barangay for at least 6 months before elections.
Aside from registration, the office will also open voter’s application for transfer of registration records, change/correction of entries, transfer of registration records from overseas post to local and inclusion and reinstatement in the voter’s list. Meanwhile, deactivated voters may also process the reactivation of their records and may request reactivation, for correction of entries, transfer within and correction of entries and updating of records of Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities.
According to Maasin City COMELEC Election Officer Attorney Don Joshua Margate, the election will proceed this coming December and voting will be manual.
The registration will run until July 23, 2022.
