Best mayor in Region 8 is from Maasin City

Thirty-nine-year old Nacional Verano Mercado bagged the number one spot among the city mayors in Eastern Visayas. This was the result of a nationwide survey conducted by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation, Inc (RPMD) from September 3 to 15, 2021 for the elected officials’ over-all performance.
The ratings and rankings are based on their job performances. The several roles as the local Chief Executive include: supervision and implementation all policies and programs, projects and services of the LGU; enforcement all laws and ordinances in relation to the governance of the city; initiate and maximize the generation of resources and revenues and use these for implementing plans; and, most importantly, action on addressing and responding to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic
The RPMD Executive Director Paul Martinez said that these public servants should be recognized for performing well. In Region VIII, the “Top 5 Mayors” results are as follows; Mayor Nacional Mercado of Maasin City with 70 percentage points job performance rating is the Top Mayor in Eastern Visayas. Mayor Richard Gomez of Ormoc City positioned second with 66 percentage mark. The 3rd spot was achieved by Mayor Alfred Romualdez of Tacloban City with 58 percentage mark while Mayor Diego Rivera of Calbayog City 4th with 56% rating. The 5th position was obtained by Mayor Jose Carlos Cari of Baybay City with 51 percentage votes.
The “RPMD Public Satisfaction Survey” has a total of 10,000 respondents in every region who were asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way (name of Mayor/Governor /District Representative) is handling his/her job as (Mayor/Governor/District Representative)?”
