The Department of Public Works and Highways – Southern Leyte 1st District Engineering Office has completed a major road improvement project along the Bato-Bontoc Road, spanning the areas of Barangay Sampongon to Divisoria in Bontoc. The initiative involved expanding the existing two-lane roadway into a modern four-lane thoroughfare, covering nearly 2 kilometers of newly paved lanes.
The road upgrade includes a 3.35-meter lane extension along with newly installed drainage systems and slope protection structures to mitigate the risk of erosion and landslides, especially during heavy rainfall.
District Engineer Manolo A. Rojas noted that the improved route is already making a difference—reducing congestion, making travel safer, and cutting transportation costs for daily commuters and logistics providers alike. The project, with a total budget of Php 29.97 million, was made possible through funding from the 2024 General Appropriations Act. (DYbañez, Source: DPWH)
