The Boy Scouts of the Philippines Southern Leyte Council (BSP-SLC) conducted an impactful 3-day Basic Training Course for Adult Leaders last October 25-27, 2024 at Maasin City National High School, Maasin City, Southern Leyte. The training was participated by 116 adult leaders from Maasin City and 42 are from Southern Leyte. The training included courses regarding Kawan, Troop, and Leaders of Adult.
The Basic Training Course aims to equip adult leaders with the fundamental knowledge and skills to successfully mentor and assist the youth in fostering a positive environment for personal growth among scouts with values of discipline, and teamwork, and growing into conscientious citizens.
Adult leaders participated in discussions and interactive sessions addressing key topics such as the Scout Law, the Ideals of Scouting, the significance of character development, and outdoor skills. Participants also had the chance to share their experiences and best practices, which helped cultivate a sense of camaraderie and collaboration among various scouting units.
The success of the training was made possible by Dr. Genis S. Murallos of the Schools Division of Maasin City, Dr. Josilyn S. Solana of the Southern Leyte Division, and Cristopher F. Roa, the Chief Executive of the BSP Southern Leyte Council.
This training marked the first time in nearly 10 years that the Kawan Course was offered, allowing Adult Leaders to gain the knowledge and skills needed to effectively guide young Scouters in elementary school, ensuring they have an enjoyable experience as they embark on their scouting journey, Council Chairman Maloney L. Samaco also committed to motivating both teachers and learners to engage actively in a diverse range of scouting activities that will help cultivate a stronger community within the scouting framework.
In today’s fast-paced society, the youths often find themselves rushing into adulthood, losing sight of what truly matters. As they navigate various pressures and expectations, the frequently overlook the importance of savoring the present and appreciating the simple joys of
life. Adult Leaders play a vital role in shaping the experiences of young scouts, helping them grow into confident, capable individuals who embody the values of scouting.
