The yearly celebration of the founding anniversary of Southern Leyte is enhanced by the holding of a month-long Capitol Food Park at the Sunken Garden fronting the provincial capitol in Asuncion, Maasin City.
Businessmen from the city and other parts of the province offer their goods and services to the promenading public, and to those who stay for food. Music is played at night by various talented bands of the province. Different music bands are scheduled to play near the food booths for those who linger to enjoy the food, music, and company of friends.
The booth owners creatively display their wares and cook their best food, while the consumer public look for the best buy and taste the food that are being offered. Start-up booth owners are able to gain needed experience for them to succeed in their business.
Last June 10, 2024, Maasin City once again opened this culinary destination, the Capitol Food Park. Amidst the acacia tree studded Capitol Sunken Garden, the food park debuted amidst the festivities commemorating the 64th Founding Anniversary of Southern Leyte Province.
Featuring a diverse lineup of 60 vendors, the park offers a wide array of culinary delights, showcasing the region’s rich gastronomic heritage. From traditional favorites to innovative creations, visitors can explore a variety of flavors while enjoying live music and cultural performances.
Meanwhile, as the capitol food park has become an annual tradition, people in Southern Leyte look forward to this celebration every year. (GMR/AVista)
