City employee gets electrocuted, found dead

Last August 9, 2021 the local government of Maasin City, participated by employees of all the city government offices, held a clean-up drive in different areas of the city, as part of the 21st Charter day anniversary and fiesta celebration.
Unfortunately, the celebration was marred by an unexpected tragedy.
A 49-year-old city public market employee was reportedly electrocuted while cleaning the public market past 2:30 in the afternoon in barangay Combado, Maasin City.
The victim was identified as Alexander Javier Fernandez, married and a breadwinner of his family who resides in barangay Badiang, Maasin City.
According to some bystanders, Fernandez cap was hit by the live wire and in a shocking instant he touched his cap, which caused him to be electrocuted. Fernandez sustained severe burns in his body and was pronounced dead.
Alex was a newly promoted casual employee. He got promoted “tungod kay maayo,” said Maasin City Mayor Nacional Mercado, who described Fernandez as a good employee.
“On-going pa ang investigation karon, some other says nga permi na nila gibalhin-balhin ang maong wire but dili man mang kuryente, or maybe because of the bad weather, kay sige man ug uwan and tungod sa hangin… So unfortunately, it was an accident ug walay ganahan mahitabo na,” Mercado explained when he personally visited the site.
