The College of Maasin (CM) is the first school in the province to offer a Professional Nursing Program.
“As the year 2000 unfolded, demand for nurses worldwide was overwhelming, resulting to the mushrooming of schools offering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.”
To grasp this opportunity, CM had to comply with the steep requirements imposed by CHED and the Philippine Professional Nursing Board. The requirements included a hospital-like laboratory with different sections where Nursing students can practice and clinical instructors can demonstrate, complete sets of library books and subscribed journals for the profession, memorandum of agreements with several hospitals, qualified faculty, and standard curriculum with appropriate syllabus had to be clearly laid out. These were officially inspected and evaluated by the national Nursing Program Board. In May 2004, with CHED approval, CM offered the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
After twenty years of existence, CM’s College of Nursing (CMCN) has churned out outstanding graduates that helped both the community and the world, produced board 5th, 7th and 9th topnotchers, and until now has sustained its being a top rating nursing school in the country.
On May 11, 2024 the CMCN with 1,000 nursing students, headed by Dean Miraluna Caturan, put up a grand presentation at the Maasin City Gym. They performed selected Philippine dances and songs from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to the delight of the audience as they executed them like professional dancers and singers. The LED backdrop that depicted Philippine culture and tradition enhanced the participants’ performance.
