COVID-19 deaths jump high in September

SOUTHERN LEYTE- People are jolted every time Department of Health reports high number of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the province. Maasin City, Macrohon, Sogod, St. Bernard and Padre Burgos are the places in the province that, so far, register high incidences of the dreaded disease.
As of September 16, 2021, Maasin City has a total of 1,343 COVID-19 cases, Macrohon with 489 cases, Sogod has 321 cases, Saint Bernard with 275 cases, and Padre Burgos has total of 245 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Southern Leyte, with a population of 429,573 registered a total of 4,191 COVID-19 cases as of September 16, 2021, as reported by the Department of Health.
There is a surge of 665 COVID-19 cases from September 1 to September 16, 2021 alone, and 23 persons died due to COVID-19 during that two-week period for the province. Whereas, the average monthly covid death rate from March 2020 to August 2021 was only 7 deaths. As reported, there were only 118 COVID-19 death cases since the pandemic started until the 31st of August.
