Dengue cases continue rising; 820 victims in Southern Leyte

The Provincial Health Services Office, via the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, has released an update on the rising dengue cases. As of July 20, 2024, Maasin City reports the highest number of cases with 346, followed by Macrohon with 205 cases, and Padre Burgos with 41 cases. Other affected areas include Bontoc with 37 cases, Hinunangan with 32, Sogod with 27, Malitbog with 21, Tomas Oppus with 17, St. Bernard and Liloan with 16 each, Limasawa with 12, San Francisco with 6, Pintuyan with 5, Hinundayan and San Juan with 3 each, and San Francisco with 2 cases.
The total number of dengue cases in the province has risen to 820, affecting individuals aged from 4 months to 82 years old, with a median age of 12. Across Eastern Visayas, dengue cases have surged to 5,730, with 2 deaths reported in Leyte, 8 in Samar, and 2 in Eastern Samar.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, such as eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites and seeking medical attention at the first sign of symptoms. The Provincial Disease Surveillance Officer in Southern Leyte is closely monitoring the situation as efforts intensify to control the outbreak. The Provincial Health Services Office advises the public to stay informed through official channels and participate in community efforts to reduce mosquito populations and the risk of dengue transmission.
