The Southern Leyte Provincial Science and Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology recently turned over P400,000 worth of coconut processing equipment to the Mercedes Upland Farmers for Development Association (MUFDA) at Mercedes Agripreneur Integrated Farm School, Inc. at Barangay Mercedes, Silago.
The assistance, under the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology project “Empowering the Upland Farming Community,” includes a coconut grater, pressing machine, stainless working table, freezing machine, shredder, and a desktop personal computer.
MUFDA President Maximo T. Locop Jr. said that the equipment will enhance productivity and efficiency in producing coconut-based products like coco sugar, coco juice, and Virgin Coconut Oil.
Present during the turnover ceremony were Brgy. Mercedes Chairperson Rolando Pamugas, Maximo Locop, Jr., Dr. Ramil Uy, and DOLE Provincial Head Ms. Eden Ligaya Y. Golong, who turned over livelihood materials for MUFDA’s organic fertilizer production. (DYbañez, Source: DOST)
