The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) recently installed the 362nd Earthquake Intensity Meter at the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Office in Silago, Southern Leyte. The device, equipped with an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), will enhance real-time monitoring of seismic activity in the area.

As part of the Philippine Earthquake Intensity Meter Network (PEIMNET), the newly installed equipment will track earthquakes and estimate their intensity based on the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale (PEIS). The data gathered will be crucial in improving disaster preparedness and response strategies within the municipality.

Local officials said that this installation marks a significant step toward enhancing the community’s resilience to seismic hazards. Residents of Silago can benefit from improved earthquake detection, helping ensure a safer and more prepared community. (DYbañez, Source: MDRRO-Silago)
