MAASIN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DWPH-SLDEO) and Philippine Red Cross- Southern Leyte Chapter joined the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on the afternoon of June 08, 2023.
The earthquake drill aims to raise awareness among the participants regarding the proper “duck, cover and hold” technique, which involves dropping to the ground, taking cover under a sturdy object, and holding on until the shaking stops.
The DPWH earthquake drill was facilitated by FO3 Eva Doron-Sandoval from the Bureau of Fire Protection. District Engineer Manolo A. Rojas said that the activity was to promote disaster resilience of the community and prepare to respond to unfavorable events.
On the same date, the Phiippine Red Cross–Southern Leyte Chapter also had an earthquake drill at Tomas Oppus Street, Barangay Abgao, Maasin City. Present were the Red Cross staff, RC 143, RCY coordinators and volunteers, clients and first aid training participants.
