The Regional Rescue Jamboree 2024 held at Sogod, Southern Leyte this July included in its activities various skills lectures and discussions focused on different search, rescue, retrieval disciplines and disaster response systems, this according to Eastern Visayas Regional Director of Office of Civil Defense, Lord Byron P. Torrecarion.
The rescue jamboree’s aimed to improve the rescue personnel’s skills in order to increase disaster preparedness in the respective communities. Director Torrecarion said that the lectures are intended to keep local responders updated on the latest theories and ensure their response operations align with the standards.
Southern Leyte hosted the regional event with estimated participants of 1,500, according to Danilo L. Atienza, Southern Leyte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Chief. The Office of Civil Defense organized the Regional Rescue Jamboree 2024, in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, PDRRMO in Southern Leyte, and the Philippine National Police.
