Maasin City’s resettlement project, named Maasin Ajonay Residences, is nearing completion, bringing hope to families in need of safe and secure housing. Located in Barangay Tam-is, the project consists of 100 housing units designed for residents living in hazardous areas and those displaced by infrastructure developments.
Maasin City recently launched its first-ever housing project, the Ajonay Residences, with a total budget of P72 million. The project is funded by the Maasin City local government and the National Housing Authority (NHA).
Each housing unit has an area of 10 meters by 4 meters, that includes a toilet. Cean Construction was awarded to build the houses.
This project, launched in 2021, is a partnership between the City of Maasin and the National Housing Authority. According to Mayor Nacional V. Mercado, 80 units have already been completed, with construction continuing on the remaining homes.
The NHA-designed units meet standard living requirements, ensuring durability and safety. Priority will be given to underprivileged families, particularly those who are homeless or do not own property, according to Mayor Mercado. Additionally, a Health Center costing almost P10million is under construction, located within the community to provide accessible healthcare services.
To qualify for the housing program, applicants must be Filipino citizens classified as underprivileged or homeless. They must not own any land or property and should not be professional squatters or part of squatting syndicates.
Mayor Mercado clarified that while the housing is not for free to the recipients, the cost will be minimal. Payments will be remitted to the NHA to fund future housing initiatives. Once selected, beneficiaries will be informed of the terms and conditions for occupancy. (DYbañez, Source: LGU-Maasin City; Photo by Modesto Peñas, Jr.)
