The Department of Health, through Provincial Health Officer Dr. Feliciano Matibag, released information during the recent Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force meeting that out of 45,649 master-listed senior citizens, a total of 21,915 seniors, or 45%, got vaccinated in Southern Leyte as of October 27, 2021.
Anahawan municipality tops the count with 98% highest percentage of vaccinated seniors. From 600 persons who are on the master list, 606 had done their first dose while 481 are in second dose. Second in notable accomplishment is San Francisco with 73% of its senior citizens vaccinated. From 800 in the master list, 716 had their first dose and 468 in second dose.
Maasin City is third with 65% out of the 10,281 seniors in the master list. Only 6,724 had done their first dose and 3,719 in their second dose.
Bontoc is fourth with 63% out of 1,900 senior citizens, with 1,205 of them completed their first dose and 1,039 their second dose. Hinunangan is fifth with 55% vaxxed out of 2,256 seniors; 1,372 had their first dose and 1,074 their second dose.
Padre Burgos churned in 51% out of 1,011 senior citizens, with 587 of them in their first dose and 365 in second dose. San Ricardo came close with 50% out of 1,334 seniors; 690 had done their first dose and 359 their second dose. Silago has 44% out 1,889 seniors, 878 had their first dose and 375 in second dose.
Both Limasawa and Pintuyan vaccinated 42% of their senior citizens. Out of Limasawa’s 910 seniors, 419 already had their first dose and 326 their second dose. Meanwhile, out of Pintuyan’s 1, 223 seniors, 545 had their first dose and 283 their second dose. San Juan and Hinundayan had 41% vax accomplishment. Of San Juan’s 1,711 senior’s, 726 had their first dose and 607 their second dose; while for Hinundayan’s seniors of 1,770, only 745 had their first dose and 609 their second dose of vaccine.
Macrohon had 38% of its 3,495 seniors vaccinated: only 1,475 had their first dose and 980 their second dose. Libagon had injected only 34% of its 2,085 seniors, wherein 808 had their first dose and 639 their second dose. Both Malitbog and Liloan had 33% each of their elderly jabbed. Malitbog has 2,522 seniors, but only 873 had their first dose and 712 for second dose; while for Liloan’s 2,737 senior citizens, only 946 had their first dose and 597 their second dose.
Saint Bernard jabbed only 31% of their 2,963 seniors, 977 had their first dose and 567 had their second dose. Lastly, Sogod municipality vaccinated only 23% of their 3,999 senior citizens, where 1,057 had their first dose and 854 had second dose.
Dr. Matibag urges the public especially the senior citizens included in the A2 category to submit their names on the list, as more vaccines will be distributed to different municipalities this month, in a virtual meeting held by the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force last October 27.
Many of those Southern Leyteños with age 60 and above have not enlisted themselves for vaccination, resulting to the low average of vaccinated senior citizens, according to Dr. Matibag. When asked, some senior citizens wanted to choose their kind of vaccine. Some of them are afraid that their existing health conditions might worsen. (R. Cabodbod)
