A total of 1,129 families in the province will be given free housing in response to the victims who lost their houses during the wrath of typhoon Odette. This was a project of former President Rodrigo Duterte, says provincial governor Damian G. Mercado on a video presented during the celebration of Southern Leyte’s 62nd founding anniversary last July 1, 2022.
The program with P100 million funds will procure materials for housing like cement, nails, steel rods, G.I sheets and other housing materials. The said funds can build thousands of 5×5 houses.
Department of Labor and Employment through “Tupad” Secretary Silvestre Bello also donated P20 million, for the cost of labor for carpenters who will build the said houses and the remaining additional expenses for labor will be shared by the local government units and the provincial government.
The office of Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) in each municipality identifies who are the eligible beneficiaries.
“Kahibawo ko nga dili na paigo sa mga tawo nga nawad-an ug balay puloy-anan, maningkamot ko nga makapangayo kog additional nga pondo para sa dugang nga mga balay”, Mercado concluded.
