Growers get aid for chicken production

Farmers from five municipalities in Southern Leyte received layer chicken and feeds from the Department of Agriculture Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program, that aims to help the farmers in the management on improving their egg layering, production and marketing.
Eighty bags of feeds were recently delivered to Anahawan, Hinundayan, Pintuyan, Libagon and Tomas Oppus; and 408 heads of layer chicken were distributed to the said beneficiaries.
According to Rovelyn Timkang-Baslan, SAAD Community Development Officer of the provincial agriculture office, said that the distributed feeds and layer chickens were given to associations with nine members for whole year production.
In addition, Sheryl T. Bernardino, Technical Assistant, APCO-Southern Leyte further discuss the accomplishment and any other program under the agriculture office such as distribution of livestock’s, fuel subsidy, vegetable distribution, Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) program and the rice program.
Maasin City is scheduled to receive on September 12 to 14, 2023 the hybrid seeds and fertilizer voucher under the rice program.
The three municipalities, namely: Bontoc with 30 hectares of land; Malitbog with 20 hectares; and five hectares in Maasin City will be the beneficiaries of corn program.
SAAD is a special program of the DA focusing on the 10 poorest provinces in the country, including the five provinces in Eastern Visayas namely in Leyte province, Southern Leyte, Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar. (RCabodbod, DA Southern Leyte)
