Heart diseases top cause of deaths

The top causes of more than fifty percent deaths in the Philippines are ischemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, neoplasms, diabetes, and hypertensive diseases. This report from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) covers the months of January to July, 2022.
“The top 3 causes of death in the country from January to July of 2022 were ischemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and neoplasms. Incidentally, these were also the leading causes of death in the same period in 2021,” PSA said.
In Southern Leyte, the top five causes of death are myocardial infraction, undermined natural cause, hypertension, pneumonia, and cardio vascular accident. This information is derived from the 2021 Health Statistics of the Philippine Statistics Authority.
The PSA data showed 18.6 percent of the deaths were caused by ischemic heart diseases, 10.4 percent by cerebrovascular disease, and 10.1 percent by neoplasms. Deaths due to diabetes mellitus accounted for a 6.4 percent, and deaths due to hypertensive diseases recorded 17,999 cases or 5.8 percent.
For deaths due to the new corona virus disease (COVID-19) the Philippine Statistics Authority data showed a total of 12,083 or 3.9 percent of the total registered deaths from January to July 2022.
