A leatherback sea turtle was washed off ashore at Barangay, Mercedes, Silago, Southern Leyte, according to John Paul Tangog Tagnipez last November 14, 2022. Unfortunately this turtle was found dead.
Killing wildlife species is prohibited by law. Republic Act No. 9147, an act providing for the conservation and protection of wildlife resources and their habitats, says that if caught on-act the suspect may be imprisoned four to six years or fined fifty thousand pesos (P50,000) to five hundred thousand pesos (P500,000).
