Presidential candidate for the May 9 2022 elections, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso came to Southern Leyte with vice-presidential candidate Dr. Willie Tan Ong last May 5.
In the morning, Moreno and Ong made a courtesy call to Governor Damian Mercado who was with the local government officials at the provincial capitol in Maasin City. After the courtesy call, Moreno with his team travelled to Sogod to meet the local officials of Sogod town and meet the people in a rally.
Regardless of the inclement weather, it was reported that thousands of individuals coming from different towns attended the “Moreno-Ong” sortie.
In an ambush interview by national and local media, Moreno said that, if elected, he intends to help the production of abaca and copra. Further saying that the best class of abaca is only found in the province. He also highlighted the need to expand the tourism here because Southern Leyte has beautiful beaches, dive sites, and mountains. He also said that he will give priority to infrastructure, agriculture including farmers and their farmlands, utilities such as access to clean potable water, and stable internet connectivity.
Moreno described Southern Leyteños as high-spirited, joyful and resilient, which is quite notable after two major calamities (Typhoon Odette and Tropical Storm Agaton) that devastated the province and neighboring towns. (RCabodbod)
