Internationally awarded fashion designer Jann Christian Lim Bungcaras hails from Southern Leyte and is now based in Cebu. He is known for his environmentally sustainable fashion, from landfills to runways. His life’s journey weaves a narrative that transcends both personal and environmental challenges. Jann navigated the values of his small-town family against the backdrop of the fast-paced city life. Growing up in Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte with his family, he embraced a lifestyle that transcended on conservation – transformed, repurposed, and innovatively utilized every fabric ensuring that nothing went to waste; where resourcefulness was a way of life. Even from an early age, Jann showed unmistakable affinity for the arts. He honed his drawing skills even before mastering the art of walking. His pursuit of academic excellence then took precedence over his artistic inclinations, driven by a deep-seated determination to bring pride to his family. Emerging as the valedictorian in high school, Jann was on the prescribed path to becoming a doctor, as envisioned by his parents. When he was in college, Jann lived a double life, straddling both Nursing and Fashion Design. However, his innate artistic talent led him to redirect his focus toward design. Bungcaras embraced design as his true passion, eventually establishing a sustainable brand. Jann recognized the power of fashion design as a means to address environmental issues. His own brand now sources textiles exclusively from landfills, breathing new life into discarded materials. In 2020, he made history
as the first Filipino winner of the Redress Design Award, a premier sustainable fashion competition. Beyond fashion, Jann co-founded Perfetto Model Management, championing inclusivity by representing queer and ally models.
