Last minute substitutions for 2022 Elections

Southern Leyte local aspirants for 2022 elections ramble until the last day of filing, on November 15.
On the last day, Jonathan Maraon filed for a Sangguniang Panlalawigan first district member post for the 2022 elections.
Also, Liloan incumbent Mayor Shirlita Chong under PDP Laban, who was running for mayoralty position, was substituted by her daughter Jonna Chong Adan also under PDP Laban; while his spouse Teofilo L. Chong was replaced by incumbent Mayor Shirlita Chong for the vice-mayoralty post.
Among those who withdrew was Hinunangan vice-mayor Florentino “Junbie” Fernandez Jr, who filed his candidacy for mayor. Fernandez will run for congressman in the second district of Southern Leyte. He was replaced Salvador P. Cupat under Abag Promdi party.
Meanwhile, former mayor and provincial board member Albert Esclamado who was running for Vice-Governor as independent and former Vice-Governor Mike Maamo withdrew their candidacies. Rosa Emilla Mercado, sister of newly appointed DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado, has no opponent for the position of vice-governor.
Out of 429, 573 population in Southern Leyte based on PSA 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH), only 292,006 of voters are registered as of October 18, 2021. Out of 292,006 total voters, 93,001 are under 18-30 years old; and 199,005 are 30 years old and above.
Maasin City has the highest number of voters registered with 56,180; second is Sogod which has 33,055; followed by Hinunangan with 21,426; Bontoc has 20,710; Saint Bernard, 18,529; Macrohon, 18,114; Liloan, 15,225; Malitbog, 13, 023; Tomas Oppus, 12,393; Libagon, 10,673; San Francisco, 9,577; Hinundayan, 9,549; Padre Burgos, 7,843; Pintuyan,7,841; San Ricardo, 7,264; Anahawan, 6,150; Silago, 4,868; and the least voters are from Limasawa with 4,412.
The highest number of voters registered are female at 146,426; total number of male voters is 144,273.
