Lower electric bills in May

Consumers can look forward to lower electricity transmission rates starting May 2025. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) recently announced a big decrease in transmission wheeling rates and Ancillary Services (AS) rates for April 2025, which will affect May bills.

For April, the average transmission rate fell by 28.45%, dropping from P1.5240 per kWh in March to P1.0904 per kWh. This is because both the costs for delivering power (transmission wheeling rates) and the costs for keeping the power grid stable (AS rates) went down.

NGCP’s transmission wheeling rates dropped by 16.35%, from P0.5505 per kWh in March to P0.4605 per kWh in April. Meanwhile, AS rates fell even more, by 36.07%, from P0.8094 to P0.5175 per kWh.

NGCP explained that the company charges only 46 centavos per kWh for delivering electricity services in May, and it does not profit from AS charges, which are paid directly to power suppliers to help stabilize the grid.

Additionally, SOLECO announced that its electricity rate for May 2025 decreased to P13.4374 per kWh, down from P14.3985 per kWh in April. This drop is due to lower government and other charges, as well as reduced power generation and transmission costs from lower electricity prices in the wholesale market.

SOLECO encourages all consumers to keep conserving energy to help keep electricity bills low.
