The Philippine Association of Social Workers Inc. (PASWI) named two Southern Leyteños – Lucia Estella Abaa and Chrisa Gerong as two of the country’s 2022 Outstanding Social Workers.
Lucia Abaa was awarded by PASWI for her sustained effort in promoting transformative social work education for students’ life-long learning, thus producing social work leaders in the country. She was cited as an outstanding social worker in the field of Academe. Abaa is a faculty member of the Department of Social Work in Southern Leyte State University-Maasin City Campus; a Philippine Red Cross-Southern Leyte Chapter Board Director, Board Trustee of the Edmund Rice Ministries Foundation Philippines, and an evaluator of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACUP).
Chrisa Gerong was recognized by PASWI as an Outstanding Social Worker in the field of Local Government. She is now working as a social worker in the Local Government of Maasin. Expert in the field of social work, Ms. Gerong was recognized as one of the Outstanding Professional Social Workers in the ASEAN Social Work Consortium in 2021. (SLSU FB)
