After more than a year of battling the infectious virus, Maasin City Mayor Nacional V. Mercado declared Maasin City as a zero-covid place during his State of the City Address (SOCA) held at Maasin City Gym last December 6. This was based on the Department of Health Eastern Visayas record indicating Maasin City with no new coronavirus (COVID-19) case in one week straight.
“I stood before my fellow Maasinhons to let them know how we stir the tides for Maasin City amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. As of this date, we have zero (0) active case and 78.87% are already vaccinated with at least one dose out of the 70% of the population (for herd immunity), including 12-17 years old,” Mercado said.
During his SOCA, aside from his COVID-19 responses, Mercado also reported all his implemented programs, projects and activities under his governance and priority thrust: Nutrition, Health, Wellness and other Social Services, Agricultural Development, Commercial Hub of Southern Leyte, Infrastructure Development, Orderliness and Peace, Nurturing the Educational System, Active Governance and Livelihood and Sustainable Projects.
In Maasin City, 48% of its entire population are fully vaccinated, according to the Department of Health Southern Leyte record.
The province also recorded only one (1) new case of COVID-19 from December 4 to 12, 2021.
