EASTERN VISAYAS _ Maasin City Mayor, Nacional Verano Mercado ranked 1st in the “Top 5 City Mayors in Eastern Visayas Region” survey conducted by the RP- Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD). This foundation made a nationwide performance assessment survey from March 15-21, 2022 for all Mayors, Governors, and members of the House of Representatives for their overall performance.
The “Top City Mayors” results in Eastern Visayas Region are as follows: Mayor Nacional V. Mercado of Maasin City, Province of Southern Leyte, is the top city mayor in Region 8, with a job performance rating of 92.5 percent; Mayor Diego P. Rivera of Calbayog City, Province of Samar, came in second place with 87.1 percent; Mayor Richard Gomez of the Ormoc City, Province of Leyte, came in third with an 85.3 percent rating; Mayor Alfred Romualdez of Tacloban City, Province of Leyte, came in fourth with a 68.4 percent rating; and fifth is Mayor Jose Ivan Agda of Borongan City, Province of Eastern Samar, with 67.2 percent.
Ratings and rankings place a high premium on job performance. The Mayor’s expectations and responsibilities are broad, encompassing several roles as the local Chief Executive: supervise and implement all LGU policies and programs and projects and services. Maintain strict adherence to all city-related laws and ordinances. Initiate and maximize resource and revenue generation, and then use those resources and revenues to carry out plans. Most importantly, addressing and responding to the pandemic’s effects—those who placed first in their respective provinces should be recognized and commended for their efforts, according to Dr. Paul Martinez, Executive Director of the RPMD.
