SOUTHERN LEYTE – The Bahandi Trade Fair showcased the Eastern Visayas’ local products last October 11 to 15 at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
The trade fair was participated by Nat’s Delicacies Store of Ibarra, Maasin City, which is owned and managed by Nathalien May Sansan. She is an active member of the Southern Leyte Chamber of Commerce (SLCCI), who often participates in the trade fairs in Tacloban City or Manila.
The other participants from Southern Leyte are Rhea Noemi Food Products from Libagon town and the Province of Southern Leyte.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) pushes for the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with local products to link with institutional buyers based in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
“We are upbeat to meet the sales target with intensive promotion by DTI and producers. Citing our past experiences, sales of trade fairs in Metro Manila were 10 times higher than what our MSMEs earned in local trade fairs,” DTI Eastern Visayas regional director Celerina Bato said.
Registered 119 MSME exhibitors joined the fair, including 3 from Southern Leyte, 35 from Leyte province, 14 from Biliran, 23 from Samar, 16 from Eastern Samar and 28 from Northern Samar.
Among the products displayed at the trade fair from Eastern Visayas are peanut butter, carabao milk, ginger tea, chocolate and other cacao-based products, coconut wine and other coco-based products, moron (sticky rice cake with chocolate), binagol (a sweet treat in a coconut shell), baked products, suman, native bags and handicrafts.
