P15 million marine hatchery under construction in Maasin City

A multi-species 1,000 square-meter Marine Hatchery and Training and Display Center is underway at Hapitan Mangrove Eco Farm, barangay Manhilo, Maasin City.
It is a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) project with an estimated facility investment cost of Php15 million. The Maasin City government has allocated a budget of Php3.3 million for site development.
According to BFAR, this project will help address food security, promote productivity and sustainable development of fishery resources in the province. Its purpose is also to support the fisherfolk, fishing communities and entrepreneurs through the availability of multi-species fingerlings.
The targeted fry production will be composed of marine species such as milkfish, siganid, grouper, abalone, and sea cucumber.
