MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte – The 2023 All Souls, All Saints Day – Undas – fall basically on a long weekend, especially to those who are coming home to the province from far-away places. Boats and buses are fully booked, and more trip schedules are added to accommodate the throng of travelers who go back home to pay respect to their departed ones by personally lighting candles in the cemetery.
The Barangay Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 precedes the observance of All Saints and All Souls Day this year. As such pre-assessment risk assessment and event planning were conducted.
The Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office (SLPPO) announced safety tips for the Undas celebration. Before leaving home, plan your visit to the cemetery carefully, lock doors and windows, ensure that no candles are left lit, appliances plugged in, and gas stoves and faucets open, it says.
The SLPPO further reminds to: keep any valuables out of the house, instruct your house to a trusted neighbor, and avoid leaving notes outside the house saying no one is there. While inside the cemetery, bring heat and rain protection, make sure that the lit candle will not create a fire or disaster, bring enough food and drinking water, make sure children have identification, the carrying of deadly or bladed weapons, gambling equipment, speakers, alcohol and merchandise is prohibited and know the location of the first aid station and PNP Assistance Hub.
