A new bridge costing P5.05 billion is planned for construction in Liloan, Southern Leyte, to replace a deteriorating 47-year-old bridge connecting mainland Leyte and Panaon Island.
The project includes a 230-meter cable-stayed main bridge, a 146-meter approach bridge, and a 345-meter approach road. This bridge is part of the nautical highway linking Luzon, Samar, Leyte, and Mindanao, providing crucial access to the ports of Liloan and Benit, which serve regular trips between Leyte and Surigao.
The new Liloan bridge is one of three bridge projects selected for feasibility study funded by the Export-Import Bank of Korea, proposed by the Regional Development Council Eastern Visayas during their meeting in Ormoc City on June 26, 2024. This initiative supports the Eastern Visayas Regional Development Plan 2023-2028, aimed at enhancing regional infrastructure to bolster socioeconomic progress. Construction is expected to be completed within six years.
