The Department of Health (DOH) in the National Capital Region on August 14, 2021 and DOH Region 8 on August 11 reported that there are 11 cases of COVID-19 variants in Eastern Visayas, including Southern Leyte.
The Southern Leyte Provincial Department of Health office through Provincial Disease Surveillance Officer Joewil Napuli clarified and said, “Negative mam, wla pa for our province, cumulative na ilang data, kada release nila number of cases, ma apil didto atong case sa una mao na naa Southern Leyte.” (As of today, there are no record forwarded to us on updates of new variants.) Napuli explained that the cases forwarded by the Department of Health Eastern Visayas was cumulative data.
Napuli claimed that the data from the DOH was from the February 2021 record involving a 44-year-old man from Sogod, who was tagged as UK variant carrier, also known as “Alpha variant B.1.1.7.” He was isolated from Caloocan City, already recovered, underwent a 14-day mandatory quarantine, and was swabbed that resulted negative, Napuli added.
