The Salvacion Oppus Yniguez Memorial Provincial Hospital (SOYMPH) in Dongon, Maasin City was heavily damaged during super Typhoon Odette last December 16, 2021. As such, its health services to patients were transferred to the old provincial hospital building in Mantahan, Maasin City. SOYMPH is the most used public hospital in the province, servicing mostly patients from the Pacific-Panaon areas and other neighboring towns.
Two years after the transfer, the SOYMPH has physically recovered, and its healthcare services resumed in the newly renovated hospital in Barangay Dongon.
The Provincial Government of Southern Leyte had allocated P25 million, while the Department of Health counter-parted P50 million for the rehabilitation of the provincial hospital.
The hospital now has 100-bed capacity wards, 56 private rooms; and facilities that include an operating room, delivery room complex, emergency room, tertiary laboratory, molecular laboratory, HIV-AIDS Treatment Hub, Covid Facility, and X-ray and ultrasound rooms.
The operations started last September 21.
