On August 1, 2023, former Southern Leyte Lone District Representative Aniceto “Odong” Saludo Jr. was the honored guest during the opening salvo of the Maasin City 23rd Charter Day celebration, held at the Anatalio Gaviola Plaza.
Saludo, known as the “Father of the Cityhood of Maasin,” was instrumental in the passage of House Bill 7201 before it became into a law, Republic Act 8796. This law converted “the municipality of Maasin into a component city of the province of Southern Leyte to be known as the City of Maasin.”
In his speech, Saludo said that he was deeply honored in serving as congressman of the province, more so in making Maasin a city, which he said is one of the highlights of his career.
The opening activity also officially relaunched the commemorative marker as the site of the creation and history in the city, two decades ago.
The City of Maasin is bounded on the South by the Mindanao Sea; on the West, by the Canigao Channel; on the Northwest, by the municipality of Matalom, Leyte; on the North, by the municipality of Bontoc; on the Northeast, by the municipality of Tomas Oppus; on the East, by the municipality of Malitbog; and on the Southeast, by the municipality of Macrohon.
