In line with Fire Prevention Month, the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 8 (BFP R8) in Malitbog, Southern Leyte, under the leadership of Regional Director Adel De Paz Bautista, spearheaded a coastal and underwater clean-up drive, dubbed “Scubasurero,” at Malitbog Pier on March 8, 2025. This initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation while integrating fire prevention awareness within local communities.
Director Bautista, who personally graced the event, highlighted the importance of collaboration, awareness, and proactive fire prevention efforts. He was joined by Assistant Regional Director for Administration Joelito S. Sabandal and Acting Regional Chief of Staff Dorotheo Claro A. Mocorro.
The activity garnered strong support from local government leaders and partner agencies. Southern Leyte SP Board Member Hon. Jonathan Lee Maraon commended the BFP’s commitment to environmental protection, while Malitbog Municipal Mayor Hon. Antonio S. Lura Sr. and Malitbog Police Chief PCPT Analee A. Gaviola reaffirmed their dedication to collaborative public service efforts. Also present was Hon. Richie S. Go, Barangay Captain of San Antonio, Malitbog.
Led by FSSUPT Randy M. Mendaros, the clean-up drive saw participation from divers of the Divers for Environmental Conservation Warriors, the Philippine National Police, the Local Government Unit of Malitbog, and other community stakeholders.
