Silago surfers train for tourism

Southern Leyte is among the 3 provinces in Eastern Visayas tapped by the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Eastern Visayas, as part of a training program for surfing instructors to promote the region into one of the top surfing destinations in the country. The DOT-Region 8 is partnering with the Academy of Surfing Instructors for the training program.
“For us to make our region a surfing destination, people must not only come here to surf, but they must also learn how to surf. This training will upgrade the skills of our local surfers who had been surfing for a very long time,” said Karina Rosa Tiopes, DOT8 Regional Director.
There will be 34 surfers from three provinces of the region to participate in the first training batch to be held in Sulangan, Guiuan, Eastern Samar. The participants are expected to come from Silago in Southern Leyte; Borongan City, Llorente, and Guiuan in Eastern Samar; and Tanauan and Dulag in Leyte.
