Pelada Rock, also called Snake Island or “Batong Dako” by locals, is a captivating, small islet just off Silago’s coast in Southern Leyte, Philippines. Known for its striking rock formations and thriving sea snake population, this island offers both natural beauty and a hint of adventure.
The island’s name, “Pelada,” refers to its high cliffs, which appear as though they’ve been “peeled back.” These limestone cliffs, some reaching 50 meters above sea level, have been sculpted by the sea and wind over centuries, resulting in rugged landscapes that draw tourists and thrill-seekers.
Pelada Rock’s resident sea snakes, called “walo-walo,” are an unusual attraction. While highly venomous, these sea snakes are generally non-aggressive, and visitors are advised to observe from a safe distance.
Ideal for snorkeling, diving, and other water sports, Pelada Rock is surrounded by clear waters filled with vibrant marine life, including coral reefs, tropical fish, and other sea creatures. The island also features caves and hidden coves that are best explored by boat or kayak, adding a touch of mystery to its allure. (Source: LGU-Silago)
