While the entire Eastern Visayas on Monday, November 22, 2021 recorded only 5 fresh COVID-19 infections. The Department of Health said that November 22 was the region’s lowest single-day COVID-19 occurrence since the start of the pandemic in the early months of year 2020.

The Department of Health (DOH) said that the decrease in COVID-19 cases could have resulted due to the massive vaccination campaign by the government. At press time, Biliran ranked first with 81.9 percent vaccination rate, followed by Ormoc City (74.3 percent), Tacloban City (69.4 percent), Southern Leyte (59.2 percent), Eastern Samar (55 percent), Leyte (49.8 percent), Western Samar, 37.6, and Northern Samar (33.4 percent).
The DOH is hopeful of attaining a herd immunity to beat the Covid pandemic, and is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated while the “vaccines are free and available.” The health agency is also calling for all people to continue observing health protocols.
