Southern Leyte gets P2.726 billion

 An appropriation of Php2.726 billion has been allocated to the Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Leyte district engineering office for the year 2024.    District Engineer Manolo Rojas said that their office will carry out a total of 80 infrastructure projects with appropriated funds under the 2024 General Appropriations Act.    The major projects freshly funded this year include the construction of flood mitigation structures and drainage systems (Php1.085 billion), road widening, road rehabilitation, and off-carriageway improvement (1.045 billion), and construction of by-pass and diversion roads (Php400 million).    The regular projects also include the construction of access roads from the national roads that lead to Maasin City Airport, declared tourism spots and other public facilities, widening of permanent bridges, and construction of multi-purpose buildings, among others.    Rojas added that the planning and design section of their office had already completed the pre-detailed engineering activities of the 80 projects. Detailed engineering activities covered the setting of design standards, conduct of field surveys and investigations, preparation of design plans and design report, preparation of contract plans, determination of contract packages; technical specifications, quantity estimates, cost estimates and approved budget for the contract.     A total of 71 projects were already successfully bid out.
