Southern Leyte Red Cross’ diamond shines bright

The Philippine Red Cross-Southern Leyte shone three hundred percent brighter as it received three national awards in the recently concluded 33rd Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Biennial National Convention Awarding Ceremony at Manila Hotel.
These awards were the Aurora Aragon Humanitarian Award for former PRC- Southern Leyte Chairperson Roger G. Mercado, Outstanding Chapter for Membership Class B Category, and Outstanding Chapter for Blood Services under Blood Collecting Unit Category.
The national awards were like diamonds that glittered, especially after PRC Southern Leyte celebrated its 75th founding anniversary last April 15, 2023, which was highlighted by the Walk for Humanity that was boosted by 5,000 participants from different agencies and schools with banners and lively bugle-corps. Hot meals, consisting of hot noodles and pandesal, were also distributed by the volunteers later.
Red Cross Southern Leyte Chapter is a leading humanitarian organization in the province that renders major services, such as Disaster Management Services, Safety Services, Blood Services, Volunteer Services, Health Services, and Fund Generation focusing on helping needy people around the province and neighboring towns.
During the first quarter of 2023, the Philippine Red Cross also conducted the project PANGGA – Panghatag ug Amomang Natural nga Ginagmay nga Gasa para sa atong Amigo ug Amiga sa PRC for the staff and active volunteers, to give them time to pamper and replenish themselves with well-deserved services.
“The core service of PRC Southern Leyte Chapter is to save lives, alleviate sufferings, and mold leaders in building a resilient community.” This is achieved through the collaborative efforts of the PRC national officers, chapter board of directors, management, humanitarian partners, local government partners, and volunteers who are up to the challenges in rendering their dedicated service.
