Survey sees some political families a force in 2022 election

Dr. Paul Martinez of the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD) said that based on a survey it conducted nationwide on the job performance of public officials, “it appeared that few family members were successful and got a high job performance rating.”
Martinez cited the Mercado family from Southern Leyte. Mayor Nacional Mercado of Maasin City led in the entire Eastern Visayas with a 70 percent performance rating in the September 2021 survey, while his father, Rep. Roger Mercado was among the top five in the region with 57 percent in August 2021.
He also cited President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, wherein President Duterte got a high approval rating of 60 percent in August 2021, while his daughter was the top mayor nationwide at 92 percent.
In Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Roberto Uy and his son, Dipolog City Mayor Darel Uy, also topped other officials in their area. Governor Uy got a 68 percent performance rating, while his son garnered 72 percent approval rating in the August 2021 survey.
Meanwhile, in San Juan City Rep. Ronaldo Zamora is the top performing representative in the NCR with an approval rating of 80 percent in August 2021, while his son, Mayor Francis Zamora got a high approval rating of 64 percent.
“It is only important that they are faithful servants and work according to their respective roles,” Martinez said. Voters always expect a high level of service from incumbent elected officials, especially if they have other family members who are also occupying elected positions. People want faster response and action from their leaders in addressing the effects of the pandemic, Martinez further said.
