MAASIN CITY – Canturing Bridge that connects Barangay Mambajao and Barangay Asuncion is now a five-span bridge that helps prevent a bottleneck going to and from the city poblacion.
The widening of the bridge cost about Php87 million according to DE Manolo Rojas of the Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Leyte 1st District Engineering Office. The bridge also has two abutments and five piers on pile-driven foundation, deck slab with concrete railings and approach slab on both sides.
“With the operations of Padre Burgos Port and Maasin City Port, large buses and rolling cargoes are plying our national highway. It has been observed that the existing two-lane bridges can no longer accommodate the increased traffic volume and larger vehicles. With the expansion of the bridge from two lanes to four lanes, it can enhance road safety, alleviate traffic congestion, and facilitate smoother traffic flow,” Engineer Rojas said. (gmr, DPWH)
