Two thousand vulnerable residents in Dolores and Taft, Eastern Samar, who are still reeling from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, were recently extended aid by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development who handed out financial assistance.
The senator’s team provided meals, vitamins, masks, and face shields to a total of 2,000 residents. The activities were carried out in batches at the Dolores and Taft municipal gymnasiums with compliance of the health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The team also gave new pairs of shoes and bicycles to selected residents, and computer tablets for children to use while studying at home under the blended learning approach.
As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go advised them to visit the Malasakit Center at the Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital in Borongan City for their medical assistance needs.
The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop which houses the government agencies that offer medical assistance programs, namely the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The program was institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11463, also known as the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.
As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go has supported various initiatives to promote the development of the infrastructure and public services in Eastern Samar, such as the rehabilitation of the Carolina-Can-avid-Dolores-Maslog road and core local road and drainage system in Taft; and other places.
(Translation: “Sana makatulong ito sa inyong lugar.
A similar activity was held for 370 families affected by Typhoon Bising in Maslog last September 30.
