The unfinished swimming pool at the provincial capitol that has been under construction for almost three years now has generated many frustrating comments from the passers-by.
The provincial government’s purpose for constructing a swimming pool is to enhance sports development and provide a venue for youth training. Situated at the Capitol grounds in Barangay Asuncion, Maasin City, the swimming pool project reportedly received funding from the national government, with the assistance of Senator Francis Tolentino. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), with P11 million budget allocation, initially took charge of its implementation in August 2021, according to DPWH Administrative Assistant Franchette Tolibas. However, the completion of the project is now entrusted to the Provincial Engineering Office.
Currently, the Provincial Engineering Office has requested an additional budget allocation of P15 Million for its completion. It is anticipated that the operational phase will be finalized within the year, pending the release of funds, according to Provincial Engineer Nelson Tan. The pool area will have bleachers and a 26-meter coral, Engr. Tan said.
