Southern Leyte celebrates 62

Hundreds of Southern Leyteños gracefully joined the 62nd year founding anniversary last July 1, 2022 at Sunken Garden Capitol Grounds, Maasin City.
In the morning, the launching of “Typhoon Odette” Provincial Housing program was held for 1,129 beneficiaries who were affected during the typhoon’s wrath last December 16, 2021.
An anniversary Thanksgiving Mass was held at OLAP Cathedral in the afternoon.
Employees and officials of government offices, national line agencies, business sectors, and non-government organizations joined the parade from Maasin City Plaza to Sunken Garden, Capitol grounds.
Mayor Nacional V. Mercado, Governor Damian G. Mercado, 1st district Congresswoman Luz V. Mercado and 2nd district Congressman Christopherson M. Yap gave their words of welcome.
A video presentation was also played during the event with the theme “Resilience in Times of Adversity”.
Also played during the event was a video message from former Senator Christopher Lawrence Bong Go and Senator Robinhood Ferdinand “Robin” Padilla.
Vice-governor Rosa Emilia Mercado gave her closing remarks.
At six in the evening, the Anniversary Dinner was followed by the Anniversary Ball and Awarding Ceremony.
Then Southern Leyteños watched in awe for a couple of minutes the colorful fireworks display.
