Guinsaugon Eco-Tourism Park, a Tourism Destination

House Bill 05173, principally authored by Southern Leyte 2nd District Representative Christopherson Yap was approved on the third reading. HB5173 declared the Guinsaugon Eco-Tourism Park as Tourism Destination.
On February 17, 2006, after a 10-day heavy rain and minor earthquake, a massive avalanche carrying 1.2 billion cubic meters of rocks, mud and other debris wiped out almost 480 hectares of land in barangay Guinsaugon, Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte. The official death tally was recorded at 1,126 persons.
The Guinsaugon Eco-Tourism Park House Bill was sent to the Senate for consideration and approval.
