A city government executive order signed by Mayor Nacional V. Mercado declared the City of Maasin under a State of Calamity last December 21, 2021. This was based on a Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution to adopt the declaration of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. The order also stated to provide for the “Release of Funds” and “Price freeze of basic necessities and prime commodities.”
The directive was intended to immediately extend assistance to the people affected by Super Typhoon Odette. The funds would greatly “aid in the rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts” of the city government, it said.
The price freeze was aimed to prevent the exorbitant increase in prices of goods, and also to avoid hoarding from happening.
