MAASIN CITY – Travelers are feeling the impact of some ongoing road construction and land development projects, and worry about safety and inconvenience. The riding public is calling for the help of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) for its strict implementation of clearing the highways especially those areas where massive excavation is being undertaken.
Residents are concerned about safety issues like protruding construction materials that obstruct highway traffic, slippery and muddy roads, and rocks falling from trucks, thus causing hazards. Moreover, the constructions had led to traffic congestion due to smaller passable roads, affecting everyone from workers to students, and emergency responders.
Engr. Erglorenda L. De Guia, Monitoring Engineer from the DPWH-SLDEO said that there are 24 road projects in 2023, and some are already proposed projects for 2024 and urges patience and understanding from residents during this phase. She emphasized the importance of safety measures, traffic management, and clear signage. She also mentioned that despite the challenges, the DPWH-SLDEO remains committed to completing the ongoing projects, aiming to enhance transportation and boost the local economy. (Margie Cadano)
